Our unrivalled experience and reputation for creating buildings of the highest quality has led to commissions for the construction of many distinctive buildings not only in the UK but also more recently for significant American clients.
APS Masonry has had a continuous presence in Oxford since the reign of King George III. It employs the real characters behind some of the cities glorious buildings - indeed the current Chairman, Malcolm Axtell, is the great-grandson of the talented mason, Thomas Axtell. Thomas was a partner of the Victorian masters builder, Joshua Symm; their building and decorating history stretches back 200 years.
The mid 1800's, saw the start of a six-year extensive new build programme at Exeter College. Conceived by renowned architect, Sir Gilbert Scott, the buildings included the Rector's Lodgings, Library and striking gothic chapel, modelled on Ste. Chapelle in Paris.
The fascinating history of APS Masonry and the development of the Symm Group of companies over the past two centuries is chronicled in an illustrated book: BUILDNG OXFORD'S HERITAGE. (Copies are available direct from APS Masonry. £30 incl P&P. Free to all clients.)
